Special notes: Our meeting point is a short walk from the Eminönü tram station. The public tram system starts at 6am and finishes around 12am. Children aged 5 to 11 years are 50 Euro per child. Your guide can help you how to get to get back to your hotel. Please meet your guide at 11:00 am or 10:30 ( depend on your booking) at in front of the of the dairy shop Itimat Satış Yeri at the right side of the entry gate of the Spice/Egyptian bazaar. Our guide will come to you and will ask if you are waiting for the food tour. If you come by tram, please get off at Eminönü tram station. Please face the direction to where the closest big mosque with two minarets ( towers ). Cross the road with traffic lights ,walk on the right side of the mosque and you will see the entry of the Spice bazaar. Please note that Spice bazaar has more then one entry so make sure you are at the gate facing the Galata tower on the hill on the other side of the water and the Galata bridge. If you come by a taxi. Please tell the taxi driver "Mısır Çarşısı " which is the name of the Spice market in Turkish.
Itinerary
Our tour starts from our meeting point Itimat Fabrika Satış Yeri which is located at the heart of old Istanbul. Our guide will meet you in front of the dairy store at tour stating time. We will walk to a local dairy store to shop for Kaymak ( a delicious dairy cream made from buffalos milk ), hazelnut and Pistachio past, açuka, variety of cheeses and Simit ( sesame bread ). We walk to a café nearby to order a Menemen with the accompany of Çay in a tulip shape glasses to enjoy a delicious local breakfast. After the breakfast we will take a public ferry ride to the Asian Kadıköy with crossing the Bosporus straight. . Be ready for some great photo opportunities of Bosporus bridge, Dolmabaçe palace, Maidens tower and more.. Your guide will tell you about the attractions you see from the ferry
Once we land in Asian side we will take short walk to Kadikoy çarşı ( Kadıköy market ) for a coffee break which is brewed on the charcoal where coffee was originally made in the history. If you are lucky your guide may have the talent of reading your fortune from your coffee cup. After the coffee break, let’s stroll in the market to see how local shop for daily cooking. We will try a small sandwich of Kokorec ( spicy lamb ). After this we will We will continue with Lahmacun ( a thin and crispy bread with minced beef and lamb, onions, tomatoes and paprika ). we follow work tasting the mouth water mussels stuffed with rice and spices. After the mussels let’s walk for an İskender kebap made of Doner kebap on top of pitta bread with tomatoes, yoghurt and butter sauces at the restaurant by the descendent of Mr. İskender who believed to be the inventor of the Doner kebap.
It is time to have sweet break! We say " eat sweet, talk sweet" in Turkey, so lets enjoy a Kunefea mouth watering dessert. We will take the next ferry to Eminönü ( near where we started ) and enjoy the breeze of the Bosporus once again. Follow with a delicious fish wrap with spices and pomegranate sauce. After this there will be no space left in stomach, so lets conclude the tour with a Turkish coffee or a çay tea at a café with the excellent view of Istanbul. If you think it is too much food for you, it is not as we have tried on many of our previous guests and so far everyone has survived. :) The food portions will be small so you can have the space in your belly to the last dish.
