Istanbul on Two Continents Tour

Conquering all the sites of Istanbul can feel like a big task when the city is nestled across two continents and seven hills, but this tour will make the city feel smaller when your local guide shows you Istanbul in Two Continents. If you love food, photography and getting amongst the local culture then come and live the local lifestyle of two continents for an afternoon and evening.

Cruise the Bosphorus on a public ferry to 'Asia', view the historic Kiz Kulesi (Maiden’s Tower) and the magnificent Istanbul Peninsula from the blue waters of the Bosphorus, visit local markets and shopping havens on the 'asian side' of Istanbul, relax in local cafés with a glass of cay, experience genuine Turkish and Kurdish cuisine and hospitality, learn the local games of Okey or Backgammon and in the evening why not try the fruity flavours of the local nargile (waterpipe). Istanbul in Two Continents is the best way to get up close to Istanbul life in Asia and Europe.

Tour Highlights

    • Take a public ferry ride with the locals to Asia
    • Cruise the Bosporus and photograph both sides of Istanbul including the historic Maiden’s Tower and the old Istanbul peninsula with Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sopia and Blue Mosque adorning the skyline.

    • Relax and drink cay (tea) from a tulip shaped glass like a local, play backgammon or okey
    • Taste Kurdish and Turkish cuisine.
    • Try and learn to make nargile in a 300 year old Madrasah made popular by locals.
    • Enjoy the many great photo opportunities along your journey.

Itinerary

Our meeting point is the Fuego Cafe & Restaurant in Sultanhamet – located in the heart of the main tourist area of Istanbul.  From our meeting point we board the local tram to Eminonu Port (European Continent) where we transfer to a public ferry to cross the Bosporus Strait to Kadikoy Port (Asian Continent). On the ferry you will have a great view of the Asian and European sides of Istanbul and have the opportunity to take photos along the way. On arrival to Asia we then stroll in the Kadikoy district visiting local food markets and mazes of streets that are lined with local shops selling just about anything! From here we walk to the fish markets and taste the delicious mussels stuffed with rice and spices. Have a break in a local café where you can learn popular board games of backgammon or Okey. By now you will feel hungry and luckily your guide knows a very nice restaurant in Kadikoy which specializes in home cooked foods from the Kurdish area of south eastern Turkey. This includes vegetarian and gluten free options. Please note that dinner and drinks is not included in the tour price so you can choose what you like. Dishes vary from 5TL to 30TL. With full stomachs we head back to Europe via the public ferry. Take in the great view of Istanbul by night. We then take a tram to a 300 year old madrasah which has been converted to a local café. Here we relax for a drink and take in the lifestyle of the locals. Try the fruity flavors of the nargile washed down with authentic Turkish beverages like Turkish cay, Turkish coffee, sahlep or boomba tea. Your guide can even show you how to make the best nargile in Istanbul. The madrasah is the last stop of the tour and is situated on the major tramline so you are welcome to depart the tour at anytime.
